Move Your Body, Don’t Worry, Be Happy!

The effects of exercise on health are commonly known, but did you know the effects it has on your brain? Moving your body can actually make you a much happier, less stressed, and less anxious individual.

The number one reason exercise makes you blissed out: it releases DOPAMINE. Dopamine is the prime neurotransmitter released in the brain responsible for that happy feeling. Unfortunately, as we age dopamine release declines, so our need to seek out activities that produce it increases. The healthiest way to get your surge: run, dance, ride a wave… just move!

The second reason: the well known “runner’s high.” People often refer to the endorphin release post workout as a “runner’s high.” The high you feel is actually very similar to getting high from an outside source. Endogenous (meaning from within the body) opioids are released in the blood, producing an “exercise-induced euphoria.”

There are so many positive benefits of exercise for your physical, mental, & emotional health. I hope this inspires you to get moving and enjoy that post workout smile. =D
