Period Cramps Take a Hike! My special Drink for That Time of the Month š
Weāve all been thereā¦ when your period creeps up on you, sending you into fetal position on the couch for a few hours, or maybe a few days. I, like Iām sure many other women, try to grin & bear it by popping some Advil or some other pain reliever. I hate doing thisā¦ thereās always a part of me that thinks there is more natural way to relieve my cramps. Like Hippocrates said, āLet food be thy medicine.ā And so, I tried to think of what I could find in my pantry & fridge that would give me some ease and comfortā¦ and a magical elixir was born.
The taste is that of a deep chocolate malt and definitely gives you that sense of āahhā when your whole body feels like its tensing. I wanted to create something that was high in magnesium, iron, and B vitamins, as these key nutrients can be extremely helpful during menstruation. I also added in some collagen to aid in healthy joints and skin.
Ingredients:
1 cup of non-dairy milk (I used almond)
1 cup water
1 scoop collagen protein (I used Sports Research)
1 tbsp cacao powder
2-3 tsp black strap molasses
pinch of sea salt
dash of cinnamon
Optional: top with coconut shavings
Directions:
Simply combine the ingredients in a sauce pan, stir well, and heat to preferred temperature. If youād like yours to be creamier, simply substitute the water for more milk. Sip and enjoy!
